11-10-2006 07:44Romance in politics is rare, especially one sector of public activities to another. Recent ones like Rhoderick Gates in the Labour Party campaigner and the actor Daniel Radcliffe continues to grab headlines, as it did in Culture Now in London, gossip magazines like Young Turks in Turkey, and brawls with The Sun are certainly big when there are more important issues to cover than romance between two public figures.
11-10-2006 00:09According to the experts the Bush administration’s ‘war on terror’ has resulted in more global terror and more turmoil in the nations it was intended to rescue from terror. So the war’s latest byproduct, a nuclear arms race among ‘rogue nations,’ should surprise no one.
Once the American war machine had pointed the finger of ‘I will get you’ on the ‘Axis of Evil’ (Iran, Iraq, North Korea, Syria) every small state not included on Washington’s ‘friendly nation’ list must have started to search for a way to deter American bombers devastating their country.
The issue I have is when the giver wants everyone to know about it.
10-10-2006 18:42Last week, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner addressed the Reform Club Media Group. Nothing like the 'establishment' sticking together is there? The meeting was conducted under Chatham House rules, which mean that no one attending is supposed to divulge what is said. But one person present was so appalled at Sir Ian's attitude and authoritarian stance that he has revealed to me an alarming - and seemingly off the cuff - remark made by Sir Ian at the event.

Muslims, it seems, are a problem. No, I should rephrase that. Muslims, it seems, are perhaps the problem of our times. Or at least one might be forgiven for believing that after the last few weeks and months. We've just had Jack Straw, the Leader of the House of Commons, and former Foreign and Home Secretary, tell us that Muslim women who cover the face with a veil or niqab make community relations "more difficult." And this is because, he says, concealing the face is "a visible statement of separation and difference."
10-10-2006 14:30Documents obtained by the Guardian newspaper show that the Blair government is complicit in the ongoing detention of some 10 former British residents detained without trial in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. This is despite an admission by the Home Office that “they do not pose a sufficient threat” to justify even keeping them under house arrest.
Following is an article about the looming US (and Israel? and UK?) attack on Iran by Dr. Abbas Bakhtiar. This is a story being ignored by the mainstream media -- most people seem to be in denial that this war could be launched later this month.
The possibility that the Republicians might loose control of Congress on 7th November in the US and their talk of an October suprise to ensure that this doesn't happen has led to much speculation, including the possibility that a 2nd 9/11 (for example a dirty bomb or nuke being let off somewhere like NYC -- NYC is the only US city to have had a radiation mapping exercise conducted and this data is just what you need for doing a before and after study of the effects of a nuke...) might be set up and then used to justify a massive shock and awe bombing campaign against Iran that could include the use of nukes. Of course this is speculation -- there is nothing I'd like better than to be wrong.
If this were to happen before 7th November the election might not even happen and if it did it could ensure a victory for the Republicians (though things don't always go as they plan, eg the election in Spain after the Madrid bombings).
10-10-2006 09:43Such a war would be an act of madness, & yet we know that the plans are already drawn up
10-10-2006 08:05There's only one consortium bidding for the contract to fuck up the southside of Glasgow by extending the M74 through it.
09-10-2006 21:17Ruddock told the ABC he was concerned about Washington’s new legislation, which restablishes military kangaroo courts and gives President Bush exclusive power to interpret the Geneva Conventions and declare virtually anyone an enemy combattant, incarcerate them and suspend their basic legal rights, including habeas corpus. According to the attorney general, however, the new law is too restrictive and “may well limit the capacity of intelligence organisations in the future.”
09-10-2006 17:33. . . . DESPITE several distractions, the "omissions" in the "mainstream" coverage of this event, in fact, from the background summations of the bio of this journalist THEMSELVES allow thoughtful people clues as to what were the actual causes of this murder - but also that poisoning as she went to the BESLAN school siege - in the run up to the USA election as the "security moms" factor was amped up.
The following text is an expanded version of Peter Dale Scott's Talk at Berkeley, September 24, 2006, entitled "9/11 and American Empire: Intellectuals Speak Out."
09-10-2006 10:33A recent Panorama report 'Sex Crimes and the Vatican' incurred the complete condemnation of the Catholic press and Hierarchy in England and Wales. The alarming pattern of events which were revealed in the documentary were barely mentioned throughout the criticism which centred upon an anti-Catholic media agenda; real and imagined:
It is essential that people across America and around the World take cognizance of the dangers of a Middle East war directed against Iran and act decisively to challenge the US military agenda and reverse the tide of war.
The World is at the crossroads of the most serious crisis in modern history. The US has embarked on a military adventure, "a long war", which threatens the future of humanity.
This article documents recent developments, focusing on military deployment and preparations in the event of a US led war on Iran. This text follows a number of earlier reports published by Global Research pertaining to the War on Iran (See Iran dossier, Nuclear War dossier, Lebanon dossier )
07-10-2006 20:59The fixation of both official Washington and the mainstream media on the emails of Congressman Mark Foley (Republican of Florida) and the Republican House leadership’s cover-up of his pursuit of teenage male pages has served to divert public attention from a far more significant cover-up of a far greater crime.
06-10-2006 20:11Unfortunately I can believe this.
What "police are believed to be the largest haul ever found [of bomb making chemicals] at a house in this country" seems to have had no space at all on mainstream media other than on this local paper.
Easy to see the difference with recently media hyped police operations. No middle eastern people this time but 2 surely white Brits with established BNP connections.
