Tamils arrested in Australia under Howard’s draconian “anti-terrorism” laws

07-05-2007 21:25

Bogus “war on terror”
Once more, unsubstantiated allegations of “terrorism” are being used for outright attacks on basic political, legal and civil rights. These developments highlight the extraordinary scope for Australian governments to use the so-called anti-terrorist laws to exploit the bogus “war on terror” launched by Washington to target anyone considered a threat to Australian domestic or foreign policy.

Nafeez Ahmed - The London Bombings: An Independent Inquiry
52 people died on 7th July 2005 in four major explosions on London's public transport system. Britain's New Labour government has blocked all attempts to investigate the attacks of that day citing 'national security' as the reason why the public should not know what happened. Any official enquiry into 7/7 looks likely to be carried out by people appointed by the Prime Minister and not independent at all.

Sarko Wins One for the Global Elite

06-05-2007 22:31

It certainly helps that enough people in France were bamboozled—as the Americans were bamboozled twice running—to put a dull shine of legitimacy on this phase of what will soon enough become one world tyranny and global slavery.

French elections: capitalism and imperialism are the "danger"

06-05-2007 14:00

Nicolas Sarkozy is not more "dangerous" than Ségolène Royal. The SYSTEM is the "danger". Royal supports the euro-miltarist strategy of François Bayrou, and wish to prevent Iran from developing CIVIL nuclear technology. Furthermore, the French "left" is not well known abroad. Even young French ignore what "their left" really is.

The Insular Conservative: John Winston Howard

06-05-2007 06:32

The Federal Minister of Employment and Workplace Relations (big) Joe Hockey was forced this week to draw his leader’s attention to the oppressive reality facing average working Australians. Crushing debt, loss of penalty rates and other entitlements have forced many Australian families to the wall. Mortgagee sales in working class areas throughout the nation have increased at an alarming rate. John Howard, the darling of big business and the Corporate sector wondered why the common people were not eating cake!

Empire as a Way of Life, Part 6

05-05-2007 19:42

The current imperial slaughter in the Middle East, justified by the "Global War on Terror", that has resulted in at least 600,000 deaths in Iraq, is nothing new — the U.S. Empire has a long and sordid history of genocidal mass murder.

The history of the US imperialism and Empire is the subject of a series of ten monthly seminars from Dr John Marciano, "Empire as a Way of Life". Attached is a recording of the third of these seminars and the text upon which it was based. The first 7 of these seminars have taken place and the intention is to have the whole series published on this site; the last 3 will take place between now and June.

This seminar, recorded on 20th Feburary 2006 by the L.A. Sound Posse, runs for 45 minutes and includes the discussion following. It has been made available under a Creative Commons license. If this recording is broadcast please let the L.A. Sound Posse know. This recording was originally made available on the A-Infos Radio Project site.

The following text has been reproduced here with the kind permission of Dr John Marciano and he can be contacted at He introduced this series of seminars in the following way:

A fundamental purpose of our meetings is to understand the systemic nature of the U.S. Empire and the economic and military imperialism that is its lifeblood. The historian William Appleman Williams argues that empire became "a way of life" in the U.S., a "combination of patterns of thought and action that, as it becomes habitual and institutionalized, defines the thrust and character of a culture and society." This "way of life" has convinced many U.S. "Americans" they have a right or "manifest destiny" to impose their political and economic policies upon others.

Dr John Marciano is Professor Emeritus, State University of New York at Cortland, where he taught courses on social and historical foundations of education and class, gender and race.

The American Empire and 9/11

"After the attacks of 9/11, I accepted the blowback thesis, according to which the attacks were revenge for U.S. foreign policy. This view led me to undertake an extensive study of the American empire, the very reality of which had been an embattled issue."

Anti-Capitalism in Five Minutes or Less

03-05-2007 12:28

We know that capitalism is not just the most sensible way to organize an economy but is now the only possible way to organize an economy. We know that dissenters to this conventional wisdom can, and should, be ignored. There’s no longer even any need to persecute such heretics; they are obviously irrelevant.

Australia: Labor conference outlines pro-war agenda

03-05-2007 07:44

Pro-war agenda
The 2007 Labor conference again demonstrated that the anti-war and anti-militarist sentiments of millions of working class Australians find no expression within the official two-party system. While the Howard government is rightfully despised for its criminal foreign policy record alongside the Bush administration, a Rudd Labor government will be no less ruthless in pursuing the international agenda of Australian imperialism.

EU/ The myth of Islamic terrorism

03-05-2007 01:01

If we look at the people arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences, the figures are rather disproportionate; about half of them arrested were Muslim. In plain English: Muslims are a group causing very little terrorism in Europe, while at the same time much more likely to be arrested on suspicion of it. The constant media coverage of Muslims being arrested creates the false image of a serious threat in order to benefit the imperialist world-view Washington wants us to adopt.

Tatchell's strange bedfellows

02-05-2007 12:42

Many Indymedia regulars will know that I have been a long term critic of Peter Tatchell, some have accused me of being a homophobe because I critises the beloved leader's claims that are not true, Peter has claimed I am Gay and my criticism is just a jealous hissy fit. Let the facts speak for themselves.
