Police Hospitalise Photographer at Parliament Protest

Reports have come in that police assaulted and injured Marc Vallee, an NUJ and BPPA photographer while he was photographing protests outside parliament today. He has been taken to hospital after reportedly having seizures and being unable to feel his legs.

Polish police block Chechen refugees from protest

Warsaw, 6 Oct 2006. A bus carrying Chechen refugees from Lublin to a demonstration against immigration policies in Warsaw was stopped by the Polish police around 15:00 (Polish time) today. In response, the demonstrators decided to block the Bureau of Deportation Affairs and Foreigners in Warsaw, where the demo was being held. The passengers, with their children, are still being held 7 hours on, and it seems that 3 of them are going to be deported. Below is a timeline of the events.

chris coverdale case adjourned as judge refuses to consider war legality

anti-war campaigner chris coverdale appeared at marylebone magistrates court this morning intending to argue that british and international law prevents him from paying a court fine arising from a conviction for 'unauthorised protest' and 'use of a megaphone'. the judge became the 21st who has refused to consider and uphold war law that chris has faced over 3 years in a variety of different cases.

Sat 28th will see the 8th annual protest march against death in custody, in prisons and mental health institutions by the United Families and Friends Campaign (UFFC). Last year it was attended by about 150 persons, i.e. literally the relatives and friends of some of the victims. So would be nice if this year some more people could be bothered showing up ...
