07-02-2009 17:15A man who died in prison while serving time for a rape he didn't commit was cleared Friday by a judge who called the state's first posthumous DNA exoneration "the saddest case" he'd ever seen. . . .

07-02-2009 14:03The pre-election attention is reminiscent of Brzezinski’s tutoring of Jimmy Carter prior to Carter’s landslide election in 1976. For anyone who doubts the Commission’s continuing influence on Obama, consider that he has already appointed no less than eleven members of the Commission to top-level and key positions in his Administration.
07-02-2009 13:59TIME Mag does an article called, “New World Order.” It Calls for Global Central Bank to be Constructed to “Save” the Global Economy, Backed by G-20. Didn’t We All Call This Out When We Were Telling You They Were Crashing The Economy On Purpose to Bring About the NWO?

07-02-2009 12:32POA supports attacks on prisoners’ rights
Prisoners have few legal tools with which to defend themselves but have at times been able to bring successful court actions against the prison system’s worst excesses. Labour’s Justice Minister Jack Straw and the Prison Officers Association want to stop them doing this.

07-02-2009 00:42At 11pm UK time, (2? explosions) ,(40?) anti-authoritarians threw (50?) petrol bombs at the HQ of the main 'socialist' party in Greece, PASOK. Perhaps they deliberately sought BBQ pork because apparently 6-8 piggies got caught in the crossfire. It was short and sweet, and one minute later the police retaliated with one lone tear gas grenade (according to reports on athens.indymedia.org)
Palestine Solidarity Campaign, along with Stop the War Coalition and British Muslim Initiative are asking all London and South East supporters to come to the town hall and show your disgust at the invitation.
There was a time, as two senior judges in the British High court reported yesterday (PDF), when "The suppression of reports of wrongdoing by officials (in circumstances which cannot in any way affect national security) would be inimical to the rule of law and the proper functioning of a democracy." As the judges -- Lord Justice Thomas and Mr. Justice Lloyd Jones -- noted, correctly, "Championing the rule of law, not suppressing it, is the cornerstone of a democracy."
You have probably already heard this, but just in case here it is again:
"The Independent Media Center UK is a grassroots network of individuals, groups, and independent and alternative media activists committed to using media production and distribution as a tool for promoting social, economic justice. Unlike the corporate media, Indymedia UK is not owned by anyone, or funded by big commercial conglomorates and advertisers."
06-02-2009 15:29Comedian Mark Thomas is to join with NUJ members in an event to highlight the threat of a new UK law that could be used against press photographers taking pictures of the police.
06-02-2009 12:58The relationship between photographers and police could worsen next month when new laws are introduced that allow for the arrest - and imprisonment - of anyone who takes pictures of officers 'likely to be useful to a person committing or preparing an act of terrorism'.

05-02-2009 21:12One cannot emphasize enough the stranglehold Israel's lobbying infrastructure has on US foreign policy. The events of recent weeks undoubtedly attest to this. 'The special relationship' that has been historically fostered between the US and Israel in fact, is often a relationship of leverage, manipulation and intimidation, and often leads to the US supporting actions or resolutions that stand at complete odds with the interests of the American people.
05-02-2009 21:06The Israelis invaded Gaza the day I went on leave. My Blackberry started buzzing with messages, and did not let up for 22 days. One of my contacts in Gaza City SMSed me on the first night of bombing: ``WE R NOT ALONE. ALLAH + US. 3 YEARS SIEGE. WE STILL STRONG.''
05-02-2009 20:26This morning one of my favorite blogs made me stop and think. I like “No Impact Man” for a lot of reasons, and it’s the only blog that I get delivered to my email. The author is a father in New York City, and he is taking part in a great experiment to prove that anyone anywhere can reduce his or her impact on the environment. Today he suggested that “it might be fun if we all--the entire community on this blog--weighed in and told each other something they've seen or an experience they've had or someone they love that makes them feel like they don't want to change a thing.”

He added that journalists in Azerbaijan are arrested every time they write about corruption or criticize authorities. Reporters Without Borders (the Paris - based media rights watchdog) included the Azerbaijani leader on its list of "Media Predators".
