Our media - another approach

Over the last five years the indymedia open publishing concept has exploded throughout the internet, not just in the form of new indymedia collectives (of which there are now over 160) but also in the creation of many other non-affiliated 'citizen media' sites.

The model has been adopted in different forms and evolved along with new communications technologies such as RSS feeds which transformed the personal journals of the Blogging world into a global syndication network for content producers of every sort.

Indymedia however remains mostly uneffected, or does it?

On February 3rd. 2003, the Pit Stop Ploughshares were arrested and charged with $U.S.2.5million disarmament of a U.S. Navy War plane en route to the war on Iraq. They were arrested at Shannon Airport, County Clare, Ireland. 25,000 U.S. troops a month pass through Shannon along with Guatanemo Express planes used for renditions.

The news is all about "Avian Flu" a disease which is predicted to depopulate much of the Earth although at the moment it remains rather limited in scope. It is worth recalling that this Avian Flu appeared shortly after scientists dug up the remains of victims of the 1918 Spanish Flu buried in the Arctic to play with the genome. Then it is worth remembering that the Spanish flu did not originate in Spain but in a US military base in Kansas.
