Justice Not Crisis Members stand as Green Candidates

28-04-2010 11:44

Justice not Crisis, a 'direct action' housing group based in Birmingham with links to the Optima Housing Association are standing as Green Party candidates in the general election on May 6th. They are also urging people to vote for the Tories to kick out Labour, even though the occupation of land they carried out a couple of years ago was entitled the 'John Lines Homeless Village'. The occupation sought to highlight the lack of socially available housing and was named after the Conservative Cabinet Member for Housing, John Lines.

The following is reposted from their website  http://justicenotcrisis.wordpress.com/2010/04/22/parliamentary-and-local-council-elections-2010/

All efforts towards advancing the national democratic revolution in Philippines!

28-04-2010 11:18

Today we celebrate with utmost joy the Filipino people’s gallant struggle for national liberation and genuine democracy under a united front. Thirty seven years ago on April 24, in the face of the fascist Marcos dictatorship, revolutionary organizations came together to form the National Democratic Front (NDF). Through the years the NDF has proven its commitment in advancing the revolutionary struggle of the Filipino people to overthrow the semi-colonial, semi-feudal system which oppresses, deprives and exploits majority of the masses.

Jail proposed in Australia for helping refugees

28-04-2010 10:56

The Labor party (ALP) of Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is planning to bring in laws that would declare anyone who assists asylum seekers in coming to Australia even if they receive no financial gain a "people smuggler" and they face jail time. The Melbourne Age states a "modern day Oskar Schindler" would face 10 years jail. The captain of the Tampa could have been jailed under these laws. The new law also gives ASIO the power to tap phones in Australia to tackle the "problem" of people smuggling.

Blair Peach: After 31 years Met police say 'sorry' for their role in his killing

28-04-2010 03:10

A former police inspector tonight denied involvement in the notorious killing of the anti-racist protester Blair Peach, after a report released earlier in the day suggested he may have been the officer who struck the "fatal blow". Alan Murray, who is now a Sheffield University lecturer but was a 29-year-old Metropolitan police inspector in 1979, said he was the victim of a bungled investigation into Peach's death. "I did not kill Blair Peach. Of that I am certain," he said.
