US to boycott UN racism conference

Israel and pro-Israeli groups applauded the decision to boycott the conference [GALLO/GETTY]

The United States has decided to boycott an upcoming UN conference on racism unless its final document is changed to drop all references to Israel.

The Conference Against Racism, to be held in Geneva in April, is a follow-up to the conference held in the South African town of Durban in 2001.

The images come from Bergamo and hard: a couple, stopped at the event left the antagonist to protest against the opening of the provincial headquarters of Forza Nuova (a movement of extreme right), is kept to the ground by a policeman that I give a foot on the head. In the video we see the couple hit a truncheon by other agents and a friend, which is a bad language by the police, tries to intervene.

on friday afternoon, brian haw and others saved the life of a tamil protester who set himself alight in parliament square. a police sergeant who saw cctv footage of the incident told them they would be receiving a letter of commendation for saving life and limb. on sunday morning, the same sergeant arrived at 9am to perform an unlawful search of the tents - using force and intimidation against the peace protesters.

A recent report in the Italian weekly Panorama, headed “The Vatican, the Shoah, and the neo-crusaders to the right of the Pope”, listed about 20 different right-wing and far-right groups around the Vatican. They include Catholic traditionalists, followers of Lefebvre, creationists, negationists, believers in the “Judaic-Masonic Plot” and anti-Islam crusaders. One is Militia Christi, which put its name to huge antisemitic graffiti that have appeared in Rome the past few months in Rome.

These groups include individuals who stand out for their strong ties to the traditionalist and Lefebvrian world. Among them is Roberto Fiore, MEP, leader of Forza Nuova, who every Sunday attends a church that celebrates Mass according to the Tridentine rite.
