British intelligence services accuse Iran of designing nuclear warhead

Following a joint ultimatum to Iran by the US, UK and France at the last Friday’s G-20 Summit and on the eve of the nuclear “negotiations” between Iran and the world’s five leading nuclear-weapon states, the Financial Times reports UK intelligence services’ claim over the resumption of “Iran's clandestine weapons programme” in early 2005.

Iran’s crime is its independence. Having thrown out America’s favourite tyrant, Shah Reza Pahlavi, Iran remains the only resource-rich Muslim state beyond US control. As only Israel has a “right to exist”in the Middle East, the US goal is to cripple the Islamic Republic. This will allow Israel to divide and dominate the region on Washington’s behalf, undeterred by a confident neighbour.

Here are some good links and statements about last weekend's murderous attacks on the Durban-based grassroots struggle Abahlali, the Shack Dwellers Movement. There was a small picket held in solidarity with Abahlali yesterday (Wednesday) outside the South African Embassy in London called by the London Coalition Against Poverty and other supporters. LCAP has only recently hosted two meetings by Abahlali activists who came to discuss and seek support for the movement and so these horrific attacks are particularly poignant.

Lambeth UNISON Gives Green Light To Environment Reps

The Lambeth Branch of UNISON - the second largest trade union in the UK - has voted to establish environmental reps in workplaces across the Borough. At a meeting of the Lambeth Branch Committee on 15th September, Branch activists agreed to encourage Lambeth UNISON members to elect environmental representatives within their places of work.
