We have called a demonstration tomorrow at the Western entrance to the Woodhead Tunnel in the Peak District, Derbyshire. National Grid are threatening to close it and thereby shut out low carbon alternatives to road transport. This is the start of the fight against their plans.'Leftists' and animal rights, the new book.
11-01-2008 20:45
'Suggest to the average leftist that animals should be part of broader liberation struggles and—once they stop laughing—you'll find yourself casually dismissed. With a focus on labor, property, and the life of commodities, Making a Killing contains key insights into the broad nature of domination, power, and hierarchy. It explores the intersections between human and animal oppressions and their relation to the exploitative dynamics of capitalism. Combining nuts and bolts Marxist political economy, a pluralistic anarchist critique, as well as a searing assessment of the animal rights movement, Bob Torres challenges conventional anti-capitalist thinking and convincingly advocates for the abolition of animals in industry—and on the dinner plate.'Immigrants dead at the frontiers of Europe

Bush exploits Strait of Hormuz incident to threaten Iran
11-01-2008 18:58
Five days after Sunday’s encounter between US warships and Iranian boats in the Strait of Hormuz, details of what took place remain in dispute. What is clear, however, is that the US administration, at the very least, deliberately inflated the incident on the eve of President Bush’s visit to the Middle East to menace Iran and raise the political temperature in the volatile region. This Week In Palestine – Week 2 2008

Will Manchester United Celebrate Israel at 60?
11-01-2008 11:56
The Israeli government has invited Manchester United to play a match during the state’s 60th anniversary celebrations. Ron Prosor, Israel's UK ambassador, seems to be trying to “improve Israels image” by associating the country with a hugely successful brand. I fail to see what good it will do Man Utd to be associated with the worlds worst brand, especially at a time of year when Israel is celebrating their independence at the expense of the Palestinians who were ethnically cleansed.
