Lawyers acting on behalf of Binyam Mohamed, a British resident in Guantánamo, who was rendered to torture in Morocco and in a CIA prison in Afghanistan, have sued the British government for refusing to provide evidence that may assist in his defence at Guantánamo. Andy Worthington, author of “The Guantánamo Files,” reports.

Welfare Reform Act to force sick and vulnerable into work

The draconian measures laid out in the Welfare Reform Act 2007 are now being implemented in Britain by the Labour government of Prime Minster Gordon Brown. The Act represents a wide-ranging attack on millions of the poorest and most vulnerable people who rely on Incapacity Benefit (IB). Recipients of the benefit are deemed unable to work due to poor physical or mental health.

Shane O'Sullivan follows up earlier reports for Newsnight and the Guardian and explores what really happened the night Bobby Kennedy was shot at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles on June 5th, 1968. Convicted assassin Sirhan Sirhan has never been able to remember the shooting. Now, new evidence suggests Sirhan did not shoot Robert Kennedy and the case should be urgently reopened.

Policing and Protest: Committee Call For Evidence

The Joint Committee on Human Rights has put out a call for evidence in relation to UK policing and protest. They specifically cite SOCPA and the prosecution of Maya Evans as an example of 'concerns' that have been 'borne out'. It's a chance to show them what we already know. The deadline for submissions is Monday 9 June 2008.
