Worksop NHS protest

Robin Hood comes to Worksop and says listen to the people

Bassetlaw's NHS "listening exercise" to be held at Worksop Town Hall, Friday 27th May, 7.000pm

Robin Hood and his band of helpers descended on Bridge Street, Worksop, last Saturday to tell the folk of Worksop that they had been missed out of the Government’s NHS “Listening Exercise”. Meetings had been held in Edwinstowe and Nottingham by NHS Nottinghamshire and the South Yorkshire PCT had held a meeting at Doncaster, last Monday that was attended by three people. Bassetlaw’s MP had not been told about the meeting and Bassetlaw people had not been invited to take part.

The group have asked John Mann to organise Bassetlaw’s own Listening Exercise and the Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, and a representative from Future Forum, the group appointed by the Government to Listen to the People, will be invited to speak at a Public Meeting to be held at Worksop Town Hall, on Friday 27th May, at 7.00 pm.

The Bassetlaw Protecting our People and Services Group gave out leaflets and collected 622 signatures, in just over 2 hours, on a petition to Keep our NHS Public. Barry Donlan, a spokesperson for the group said Robin Hood would approve of the group using his name to defend the National Health Service for the people. He said that, “The Government’s proposals include turning the National Health Service into a National health market with profits for private providers funded through taxpayers’ money. Private companies would ‘cherry pick’ the simpler procedures to deliver and leave the more costly procedures for the taxpayer to fund”. Councillor David Potts said that Government advisers had said that future reforms would “show no mercy to the NHS and offer a big opportunity to the for profit sector”.

Robin Hood’s helpers gave out invitations to the Public Meeting and urged everyone to attend.

The International Criminal Court: An imperial tool

22-05-2011 23:02

The Guardian, 17 May 2011
The International Criminal Court's chief prosecutor Moreno-Ocampo "sought arrest warrants" for Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi, his son Saif al-Islam, and brother-in-law intelligence chief, Abdullah Al-Sanous, on "charges of orchestrating systematic attacks against civilians (amounting to) crimes against humanity."

Moreno-Ocampo is an imperial tool, following orders. Claiming ample evidence shows Gaddafi "personally ordered attacks on unarmed Libyan civilians" is gross hypocrisy with no credibility whatever. His announcement was strategically timed to justify war by accusing government victims of crimes, portraying NATO lawlessness as a noble initiative to deter them.

Future events: Notts Uncut Emergency Operation

transform one of Nottingham's high street banks into a hospital

Saturday May 28 @ 12:00

Outside Boots, Parliament St, Nottingham

Notts Uncut are answering UK Uncuts call for a national day of action with a fantastic day of fun, frolics and street theatre!!

Boo the greedy bankers as they pocket more and more of the money which should be paying for our public services. Hiss Andrew Lansley as he takes apart the NHS piece by piece.

“The NHS will last as long as there are folk left to fight for it.”

- Nye Bevan, founder of the NHS

“Andrew Lansley. Greedy Andrew Lansley. Tosser.”

- MC NxtGen

This is an emergency. The welfare state is in peril. Under the guise of ‘efficiency’ and ‘reform’, this government is plotting to cut the NHS and sell off what’s left. Andrew Lansley has claimed the government is in a ‘listening exercise’ about the proposed NHS ‘reforms’. But despite widespread outcry from doctors, nurses and the public the government isn’t listening to anyone apart from private healthcare lobbyists.

Let’s make Lansley listen. We want to keep our healthy NHS and fix our broken banking system. Whilst the NHS is being dismantled, the banks that caused this crisis in the first place have been left untouched. Reckless gambling, obscene bonuses and a global financial crisis are symptoms of a disease that requires a drastic intervention.

The banks are due a check-up. On Saturday May 28th, join UK Uncut’s Emergency Operation and transform one of Nottingham's high street banks into a hospital. Tell the government to leave our NHS alone; it’s the banks that are sick.

We may turn HSBC into a hospital or fill Natwest with nurses. We might have to get bandaged in Barclays or operate in RBS. Join Notts Uncut on the 28th and let's do our best for OUR NHS.

An eyewitness account of the revolutionary assembly now taking place in Bilbao. No apologies for writing the account in the form of a poem, this is just the way it happened. I read this last night in the assembly (I was very nervous, there were thousands of people there.)

former US Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney (1993-2007)
The former Georgia Congresswoman and Green Party presidential candidate Cynthia McKinney is “saddened that our first African-American President presents a false perception of the Black political consensus in the U.S.” She told the peace conference in Tehran: “We cannot bring our country to peace and respect for human dignity without the solid foundation of the truth.”

UG#550 - Between The Lies about Libya (Vijay Prashad and Ellen Brown)

Audio
No conclusive answers this week, as we consider possible motivations behind the recent attacks on Libya that underlie the rather overused cover story of humanitarian intervention. As an introduction, we read Ellen Brown's article Libya: All about Oil or All About Banking?. This sets the stage for our main presentation, by Vijay Prashad, a professor of international relations, whose invaluable insights and pieces of history you are unlikely to hear on commercial media.

Opposing NHS Privatisation

22-05-2011 00:19

The Coalition government has responded to public criticism of their plans to pay GPs to help them privatise the NHS, by launching a fake "listening exercise" as a form of spectacular diversionary misdirection and exercise in manufactured consent. However there are opportunities for the public to make their views known. Responses must be received before May 30th -
